Stashbusters May Check In from From My Carolina Home

Can you believe that another month has gone by? Time to check in for our Stashbuster challenge. Once again, there is no judgement when the sale table calls, an adorable print shows up in the quilt shop, a vendor’s offerings at the quilt show is uniquely appealing, or retail therapy is needed. There is only one rule, report as ‘out’ only what is completely finished, quilted and bound. For small items like purses or totes, they have to be finished and ready for use or gifting. The challenge is to complete things for gifts, to donate, or to use ...

Stashbusters March Check In from From My Carolina Home

It’s that time again! On this post, report your fabric in and out for February. Every month we’ll check in on the first Friday of the month. The goal is to have more out than in at the end of the year. Remember that it is fine to buy fabric now and then, and our local quilt shops depend on this. As Murphy’s Law of Quilting tells us, for every project you’ll probably need to buy something. It might be another print, or some blender or background neutrals, or backing. Fabric out can also be given ...

I have not had much time to sew this past month. Between out of town trips, meetings, club events and appointments, I have not put thread into fabric for some weeks ...

Stashbusters April Check In from From My Carolina Home

It is the first Friday of the month, time for our Stashbusters check in. How’d you do sewing in March? Gather up your acquisitions and finishes, as it is time to report your progress.

I had a lot of fabric ‘in’ this month. Spending gift certificates and winning a prize pushed the total up higher than it would have been otherwise. Leading off, my fourth place win in the National Quilting Day challenge came with a jelly roll, fabric in = 3 yards.

Spending a gift certificate at our local shop, Beginnings, I came home with two yards of cute ...

Stashbusters December Check In from From My Carolina Home

How are you doing with your Stashbusting? Holiday sewing may get us over the line with finished projects for Thanksgiving and Christmas, the New Year and winter, gifts and decorations.

I ended up donating the harvest panels back to the guild freebie table, so one yard out for that. I just ran out of juice for autumn projects.

I finished the table runner from the blocks I picked up at retreat. Counting out 2 yards for blocks, backing and binding.

The Trip Around London quilt was finished and will be auctioned off tomorrow evening. Counting out 5-1/2 yards.

The ...

Stashbusters November from From My Carolina Home

It’s been five weeks since our last check-in, have you been sewing during Autumn Jubilee? There were certainly a lot of projects to use up some stash.

Several projects in Autumn Jubilee reduced my stash. Using the lovely fall fabrics was delightful. First, 1-1/2 yards out for the Autumn Jubilee apron.

Counting out 1/4-yard for the Jar Wraps, including the Sewing Is My Jam one.

The Harvest Festival Quilt counts 2-1/2 yards out for top, backing and binding.

The Turkey Talk placemats count out 2 yards for tops, backing and four bindings.

Two basket liners at ...

Stashbusters October (A Week Early) and a Road Trip from From My Carolina Home

Updating early because of Autumn Jubilee, today we check in with our Stashbuster totals for September. Much of what I worked on this month will not be completed until October, so fabric out was a challenge. But the fabric ‘in’ was a delight!

You’ll see a lot of these fabrics next month! Aren’t they scrumptious? This is the Harvest Festival line from Benartex Fabrics. They are such high quality, with a soft hand and a lovely array of fall colors and prints. My inspiration from these fabrics ran wild, and we’ll have several projects featuring this line ...

Stashbusters August Check In from From My Carolina Home

Time for the August Check in for Stashbusters. Did you finish a project? Did you succumb to the freebie table at guild? Was a bit of retail therapy required during Shop Hop? Did you give away any yardage or scraps?

I got a bit ahead this month as I finished Quadrille and can now count out all that fabric! Total 7 yards out for top, backing and binding.

My Christmas in July quilt along counts one yard out for top, backing and binding.

Now the fabric in. I was delighted to receive this box of British theme fabrics from Brenda ...

Stashbusters 2023 June Check In from From My Carolina Home

It was a lean month for finishes for me again in May. Between car club events and family visiting, not much sewing was done. What I did do with the quilt on the frame had to be taken out and restarted which set me back a bit for a finish as well.

I managed to finish and deliver the Quilt of Valor just this week, so I could count out the backing fabric. Because of the size of the quilt, plus the donation of the trimmings, I can count out 6-1/2 yards.

Next, our Area meeting was yesterday, and ...

Stashbusters May from From My Carolina Home

Stashbuster report time! It wasn’t a great month for finishes for me. With multiple visits to the ortho doc, and too much time sitting after injections, I got more reading done than anything. The good news is that missing the guild meeting and no shopping time meant no fabric in.

I did finish the little red cuddle quilt for the Ethiopian orphanage. Although I didn’t get a photo of the finish, it only had binding added from here. The size was about 40 x 50, and I am counting 3-1/4 yards out for top, backing and binding ...

Are You Up For a Challenge? from Patchwork Sampler Blog

After 30-plus years of quilting, I have accumulated too much fabric! I sew nearly every day, but it still takes a long time empty a shelf or bin. When we had our water heater replaced last month, I rearranged some bins and realized I have many yards of flannel. It is bulky and takes up a lot of space and I don’t like working with flannel. To motivate myself and to encourage you to use up some fabric, here is the first stashbuster challenge.

In March, use some scraps or stash to make a nine-patch quilt. I will be ...

A Pillowcase Project from From My Carolina Home

Our small neighborhood group of our guild has decided to do pillowcases for Safelight’s shelter. Yes, it is the same place as our Safelight Project Spa Bags. This could not have come at a better time, as I have a lot of fabric, and it will help with the Stashbuster challenge! I may not actually use all of this, but certainly a lot of it can go. Our group will have a sew-in later this week, so most of the yardage out will go in February, but I wanted some to be out in January.

I have shown how ...
